More About the Medical School

Mercer University School of Medicine’s MD program admissions are specifically designed for Georgia residents with a strong commitment to serving rural and underserved communities. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and legal Georgia residents. A bachelor’s degree is required, and applicants must complete prerequisite courses in biology, chemistry, and physics, along with the MCAT (taken within the last three years). Applications are submitted through AMCAS, with a supplemental application following. The admissions process includes evaluation of academic performance, clinical experience, community service, and personal attributes like leadership and communication skills.

Mercer uses a rolling admissions process, so early applications are encouraged. The final deadline for AMCAS applications is November 1, with supplemental materials due by December 1. Applicants are also required to submit three letters of recommendation, with at least one from a science professor. Interviews are conducted on-campus by invitation, allowing candidates to discuss their motivation for pursuing medicine and their commitment to the mission of serving underserved populations.

Mercer also offers the Early Decision Program (EDP), where applicants commit to attending Mercer if accepted. The EDP application deadline is August 1, and decisions are communicated by October 1. Financial aid and scholarships are available, with priority given to students who demonstrate financial need or exceptional academic merit.
