More About the Medical School

To apply to VCOM’s DO program, candidates must meet academic and technical standards, including a minimum GPA and MCAT score. Admission to the D.O. program at VCOM, including the Carolinas campus, follows a unified process across all four campuses (Virginia, Carolinas, Auburn, and Louisiana).

Applicants must have completed 90 semester hours of undergraduate study, including science prerequisites, and a bachelor’s degree by matriculation. The application process begins with the AACOMAS (American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine Application Service) submission, which includes transcripts, MCAT scores, and a primary application.

Once an applicant passes this stage, they receive an invitation to complete a secondary application, which involves submitting additional essays and paying a $25 fee. Letters of recommendation are required, typically from a pre-health committee or science faculty.

The final stage is an in-person interview, which takes place between August and April. VCOM uses rolling admissions, so applying early increases the chance of acceptance. Applicants can choose their preferred campus in the secondary application, and if multiple campuses are interested, they may be invited to interview at more than one location.
